Week 6 Discussion Forum Question: AANP or ANCC?
You are a FNP practitioner student who wants to know more about the national certification examination and about becoming a FNP. You have questions: How should I prepare for the exam? How much does it cost? What are the eligibility requirements to take the exam? How do I get licensed to practice as an ARNP? These are just a few examples of the questions you may have.
There are two, recognized credentialing bodies who offer a national certification examination for nurse practitioner students. Students who successfully graduate from the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program at Keiser University will be eligible to take this national certification examination from either the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Your instructions for this week’s discussion are to:
1) Complete all of the required readings up to and including this week.
2) Use the two websites below and answer the following questions. Does each website provide:
• A clear explanation of examination costs and eligibility requirements for students. Give example(s).
• Resources to help prepare you to study and pass the examination? Give example(s).
• Resources to help you know what your state requirements are for licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner? Give example(s).
• Links within the site to student specific areas and to other related websites such as to professional nursing organizations, to professional nursing articles, and/or to other nursing information that you found pertinent. Give example(s).
3) Summarize your answers to the questions in an organized format and post it to the discussion forum
4) After reading all of your classmates posts, answer the following question:
• Which site was more user friendly. Why?
• Which site was more informative and helpful in answering the questions? Why?
• Based upon your assessment of the two websites (and any other searches that you did) make a preliminary recommendation as to which national credentialing examination you are going to take after successfully graduating from the MSN, FNP program.
