The rationale for implementing this type of improvement is that, unfortunately, the healthcare system consistently falls short in providing safe high-quality evidence-based care to patients and their families (Fondahn, et al, 2016). The focus of quality improvement is patient centered. The main purpose of this type of project in the healthcare setting is to examine areas of concerns that directly affect the patient’s outcomes and satisfaction of the care. This is done by identifying and removing barriers that can potentially prevent safe quality care. This can be done by analyzing data that can help eliminate any processes or workflows that create a difference between the care being provided currently and the care that should have been provided. A well thought out evidence-based quality improvement project will influence patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and staff alike. Through the advancement of technology, the ability to collect viable data, review evidence-based practice has given the healthcare delivery system the ability to provide the highest quality care-delivery system to date. An example that I have seen in action is the use of data that is collected for audit purposes. Managed Care Plans are heavily audited by several regulatory agencies. The data collected varies depending on what agency is conducting the audit. However, the purpose is always patient centered, and evidence based.
