Persuasive Speech Assignment (100 pts.)
Purpose: to bring about change in your audience’s attitudes and/or actions; to align your audience’s attitudes/actions with your desired attitudes/actions. You cannot persuade people to do something they are already doing– no change would be made! YOU MUST INDUCE CHANGE FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT… therefore audience analysis and researching your audience are critical to completing this assignment.
Speech Requirements:
• Time Limit: no less than 6 minutes, no more than 8 minutes.
• Use the extemporaneous method of delivery. Speak from “key word” outline.
• You must use at least 5 sources in addition to your personal experience with topic. This speech must be researched! All sources must be cited in your speech and on your outline to avoid plagiarism. You are required to use APA Style citations.
• You must include a Reference List at the end of your outline which contains all sources cited in speech and on outline. APA Style Guides are available on-line and at the library.
• Visual Aids: you must incorporate at least 2 into your presentation
• You must include one example each of ethos, logos, and pathos on your outline and you must label them.
• You will turn in on the designated date a TYPED, FULL SENTENCE OUTLINE.
Your speeches will be graded on content and on delivery. The content aspect for your grade will be based upon your outline and to what extent you have met the above requirements (outline includes: having followed required format, content/materials, organization, and research/citations). There will be a significant penalty for being over, or under, your speech time limit (one point for every thirty seconds over or under the time limit). I would encourage you to practice! Practice!
