Choose a nurse theorist and state why the theorist has made the most valuable contributions to nursing research
Answer
Nurse Theorist
Over time, the world has seen the rise of several great nursing theorists. Some of them include Imogene King who developed the goal attainment theory, Madeleine Leininger, who conceptualized the transcultural nursing theory and Hildegard Peplau who came up with the interpersonal theory. All these theories, along with all the other unmentioned ones, have been instrumental in shaping the way that nurses provide care to the patients. This essay will look at the contribution that Madeleine made in particular to the nursing practice.
Madeleine Leininger developed the transcultural nursing theory with the aim of discovering the different diversities with regard to human care in relation to the different social structures and world view. Transcultural nursing, according to Madeleine, is the area of nursing that deals with the development of a global perspective within the nursing world, in order to incorporate the interdependent nations and people along with all their diversities (Sagar, 2014).
Leininger has made the most valuable contribution to nursing research as she found a way to address the concept of diversity in the health care industry. Nurses and health care practitioners in general, receive patients from all walks of the earth. Learning how to attend to the needs of each patient, all the while considering their beliefs and systems, is indeed a great contribution (Natan, Ehrenfeld&Itzhaki, 2015). Her theory has made it possible for people with different cultures to inform and guide the healthcare professionals on the best way to provide care.
In conclusion, there is no doubt that nursing theorists have made significant contributions to the nursing practice. For instance, through her theory, Madeleine greatly emphasized the idea that everyone, regardless of their culture, beliefs, structure and the healthcare institution visited, is entitled to quality health care.
