The main problem with modern sports is that too much attention is put on a performance at the expense of participation. Many sports instructors do not go the extra mile to invent new talents. They rely on improvement in the performance of only those people who have been favored by circumstances to bring their talents into the limelight. Unfortunately, many other talents lay buried in the crowd. The main challenge is discovering them and unlocking unexploited potential.
Gender imbalance is another critical challenge that results in a negative sporting performance in one gender and inspiring the other to do better. The sport being participated in is always the determining factor. For instance, women are traditionally expected to be feminine. This attribute locks them out of sports such as car racing and weightlifting.
Ensuring competitiveness in sports has been a challenge for a long time. Poor officiating and match-fixing scandals are very common. Discipline among players has also contributed to problems in the football field, boxing ring, racecourse, basketball court or anywhere people gather to engage in a sport. However, some problems are sport-specific; for instance, doping is a perennial problem among bodybuilders and endurance athletes.
