RESEARCH GUIDE:
Below are some examples and tips for finding research sources for your essay. For an essay of 2,200 words, you will most likely need to consult at least 10 different sources, if not more. I recommend the following strategy:
1. Pick a broad topic related to one of the three essay questions. (For example: Cross-Dressing in Thailand , which deals with Question 1.)
2. Do research. Read lots of different things about the topic from the proposed sources I list below.
3. As you re doing research, and based on what you ve been reading, formulate an argument/thesis that responds to the question you ve chosen. You should be able to summarise it in one sentence. (For example, Many men in Thailand engage in cross-dressing as a means of escaping what they perceive as the restrictive norms of traditional community and society.
4. Now you have a clearer research focus. Do more research on the specific topic you ve chosen. (For example, read books and articles on cross-dressing and tradition or cross-dressing and individual identity .)
