My name is Sabrina Wilkerson and I am the school’s Family Life Educator. At Wilk Academy we believe that parents should be the first to talk to their children about sex. This letter is your invitation to join me for a workshop that will be centered around parent/child communication on sexuality. The workshop is for all parents of upcoming 6 graders. The workshop will be offered here at the school in the media center on Wednesdays beginning July 6, 2016 at 7pm. The workshop will last for 45 minutes each Wednesday through August 3, 2016.
We would like to equip parents with the resources to have those uncomfortable talks with their children. In the past we have experienced that parents have not talked with their children because they didn’t know where to start. During the workshops parents will be given the necessary tools to teach their children about the following topics: Talking to your child about puberty, Sexual Behavior, Abstinence, Contraceptives &will be given Teen Pregnancy statistics.
When doing research for this workshop I discovered several important factors
- “many teens still obtain a great deal of information and misinformation about sex from their peers.
- Youths from stable family environments are less likely to engage in premarital sexual relations.
- Effective listening skills are essential for parents who wish to maintain good communication with their adolescents.
- Teenagers misuse sex for many nonsexual reasons, including a search for affection, rebellion against parents, venting anger, and alleviating boredom” (Dacy 2009, p346).

To Whom this May Concern,
My name is Carmen Solivan and I am formally inviting you to a Sexuality Development workshop, instructed by me, for parents with children of all ages. This workshop will go over topics about the importance of sexual education and the importance of teaching children, from an early age, the importance of developing a healthy view of their sexuality. The workshop will included topics like the importance of sexual education for children at different stages of a child’s development, the parents role in teaching a child about sexual education, and how to talk to a child about sexual education at any age. Parents are naturally eager to provide guidance and knowledge to their children, so that they can become responsible and happy adults, however some parents can be afraid of talking about sexuality with their children and that is where this workshop will benefit you, because I am going to teach you why it is important to teach your children about sexual education and how to not be afraid of talking to your children about this sensitive, but very important subject. This workshop will go over why and how sex education helps children understand about their bodies and how sex education helps them feel positive about their own bodies. Early, honest, and open communication between parents and children is very important, especially when your child becomes an adolescent, so that is why this workshop will be very beneficial for both you and your children (AboutKidsHealth, 2016).
There are websites that you can browse through, before the Sexuality Development workshop, so that you can do your own research about the importance of teaching your children how to develop a healthy sexuality.
