Module Title: Advances in Financial Accounting

Submission Details: The submission deadline is 12.00 noon on Monday 9 November 2015 via the MGT355 MOLE site.
Students should note that the time of submission is taken from when the document has been uploaded successfully and confirmed. During busy periods, this may take more than five minutes. Late submission penalties will be applied to any assignment submitted from 12.01pm on the submission date. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the submitted assignment has been uploaded successfully.
The submitted assignment should include a completed cover sheet, which is available from MOLE. The document file name should include your student number followed by ‘MGT355-1’.
Marking: The assignment will be marked in a hard copy format and will be returned to you via the Student Experience Office.
Contribution to Final Mark for Module: 25 percent
(Regardless of the mark for the assignment the final mark for the module is the weighted average of the mark for the assignment and the mark for the examination.)
Maximum Word Length: 1500 words excluding the list of references. In other words, everything included in your report is included in your word count except for the references and appendices.
Requirement:
The assignment is concerned with the limitations of financial reporting, which is discussed in the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales’ (ICAEW) monograph, Developments in New Reporting Models, published in 2009. A copy of the monograph can be downloaded from the module website. Given the concerns raised in this monograph about the limitations of financial reporting, the ICAEW has asked you to follow up on this monograph to discuss whether, given these limitations, reform of financial reporting is necessary. The follow up to the monograph should be in the form of a report that is addressed to the ICAEW and provides them with your views on this issue.
