Anfield will also undergo external improvements. There will be installation of a new lift at the Centenary Stand and whose main purpose would be to serve the disabled supporters. It will enable them to have an easy access to the upper levels of the stand. The area will have new wheelchair platforms installed at the rear of the lower tier of the Centenary stand. Apart from increasing the capacity and upgrading the facilities for the disabled supporters, the general stadium will also have its capacity increased by 470 positions.
Business Case
The overall increase of the seating capacity of the stadium has been informed by increasing number of supporters. Liverpool draws a lot of revenue from match day attendance. By investing in the expansion of the seating capacity both for normal fans and the disabled supporters, the club will increase its revenue by approximately £ 3.5 million in a season. The money will help in expanding the overall total revenue of the club from £21.5 million to approximately £25 million. The expansion of the stadium and upgrading of the facilities will promote a safe stadium that is able to cater for diverse populations. The disabled supporters will have an easy time moving around the stadium and will also have vantage points that allow them to enjoy all the matches. It is an element of performance management that will ensure efficient operations of the stadium services.
Background
The total number of seats set aside for the disabled supporters, both for home fans and away fans, has stood at 360 positions since 2014. However, the stadium has experienced a growth in the number of disabled fans since then and this has necessitated the increase in the number of seats in order to cater for the expanded population. The facilities at the stadium catering for the disabled supporters are out of date hence the need for the installation of a new lift on the Centenary Stand to facilitate easy access to the wheelchair bays for the disabled supporters. Apart from increasing capacity and facilitating easy access, the club also wants to improve the view for the disabled supporters by installing seats in different parts of the stadium for the disabled visiting supporters. The key aim of the club is to attract more supporters to the stadium every season, therefore, the expansion of new general seats by approximately 470 positions will help to cater for the increased number of supporters that visit the stadium to watch live matches.
