(Specific): I want to obtain RNC- INC certification after finishing my BSN in October 2015. This certification will help improve my skills and knowledge in my specialty field of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I will be more confident while providing care to sicker babies, which will increase my dedication to patients and motivated me to become an expert in my field and enable me to experience personal growth and satisfaction.
M (Measurable): It is measurable because it I have to pass the examination to obtain it and continue to complete continuing education hours in order to maintain it.
A (Attainable): It is attainable because after I finish my BSN I will have enough time to prepare for this test at home by reviewing signs and symptoms, lab values, blood gases, potential medications and side effects, anticipated procedures and general nursing interventions related to the patient problems outlined. I will also use my paid education leave to attend the exam review course. The requirement to be eligible for this exam is to have two years experience in the specialty unit and I have seven years of experience. There are my other co-workers who have their RNC- INC and will be good resource.
R (Realistic): Goal is realistic because my hospital and manager encourage nurses to achieve special certifications. There will be no problem to get time off of work to attend the exam review course. Preparation for this certification is very flexible because I can make my own schedule to study at home for this test.
T (Time): I will be finishing my BSN in October, 2015 and will study for three hours every day for two months to get ready I will apply in November, 2015 and it will take 4 weeks to process the application and after receiving my eligibility I will schedule my test as soon as the date is available.
